Baby Monitors are used by millions of families every year to help watch over their newborns and older babies. As technology has come into the field the baby monitors have gotten a bit fancier and actually do more - from sensing movement, sound and even with visual monitors for watching over your newborn baby. Here are some of the monitors that I find to be very useful.
The Angelcare baby monitor not only allows you to listen for your baby but also monitors your baby's movements via a sensor pad placed under your baby. This can alert you to a no movement felt if baby were to stop breathing. This unit acts as a sound monitor up to 200 feet with 2 channels to prevent interference. The receivers have adjustable volume control and uses sound lights to show baby's sound with volume turned off, or if the battery is low. Battery backup is used
for the receivers.
"It's really comforting to know what's going on with the baby without having to be physically in the room with her," Stephanie Hinkaty said. "it gives me a sense of security."
Consumer Reports warns some monitors can be as temperamental as a 2-year-old, so choosing the right monitor could mean the difference between true comfort and a false sense of security.
The magazine tested 10 baby monitors. A basic unit costs $25, while a more elaborate video setup costs $200.
The first test focused on one of the biggest complaints from parents: interference. To make sure that's not a problem, Consumer Reports recommended getting a digital unit.
Also, many parents prefer monitors that can go where they go, so battery life is key. Testers found big differences among the different models.
The battery on the Safety First True View Video Monitor didn't even last three hours, while a Sony BabyCall kept going for 28 hours.
Testers also found major differences in signal strength, which they evaluated using a soundtrack of a crying baby. They set up a transmitter next to it, then measured how far away they could move the monitor and still maintain contact.

Which baby monitor is best/most reliable? Sony Babycall monitor or Summer Infant Slim and Secure video monitor?
I know they're two different types of monitors but my wife and I have heard pros and cons for both. We were hoping to get a little more insight from anyone familiar with either one or both models. Thanks!
I am very happy with the summer infant slim. Its digital which is wonderful. We had the summer with the big monitor and handheld monitor before and it was analog and horrible.
